According to the academic calendar announced by Gujarat University, Diwali vacation has been reduced to 13 days. Recently, the Gujarat University area faculty has submitted an application to the Chancellor seeking a 21-day Diwali vacation as before.

As per UGC rules, 10 weeks vacation is given throughout the year, of which 49 days are considered as summer vacation and 21 days as Diwali vacation. 30 weeks of academic work and 10 weeks of examination and admission process are considered. The Gujarat State Teachers' Union has also written a letter to the state's Education Minister Jitu Waghan on the issue, demanding a 21-day Diwali vacation.
